You are in Sarajevo and care for some coffee? Here are some of our favorite places in the city, ranging from quiet and traditional, to vibrant and hectic. Depending on what day you have planned, here are some options to escape the city crowd or melt right in with it. We hope you enjoy your stay and fall in love with the city and its love for coffee.

____________

1. Čajdžinica Džirlo (Tea-House)

www.shush-mush.com

At the teahouse Džirlo owned by Husein and Dijana Džirlo, it is like being in two places at once. Džirlo describes it as being in the heart of Čaršija, but at the same time you are not in Čaršija. From this vantage point, there is a direct and open view of the Sebilj fountain, offering a picturesque and almost mystical view of the oldest part of Sarajevo. This tea house is a Sarajevo gem. The interior space is enchanting, decorated with tea pots and cups, books, antique bowls and photos, creating the exact time of atmosphere most people in search of a tea shop are seeking.

The shop is relatively small, but does still offer downstairs, upstairs, and outdoor seating. The menu includes a variety of teas and infusions that you can see and smell before making a selection. Additionally, there are coffees and soft drinks. Great presentation of drinks… coffees [Bosnian Kafa] are served so that you pour it yourself with sugar cubes and Turkish Delight on the side; teas come in adorable pots and are served with honey, sugar, and tea cookies.

Best part, however, is the staff. They are friendly, outgoing, and quick to draw you into their community. They speak a range of languages, and if you take an interest in the shop they are happy to entertain with conversation and stories of their own. Great way to get to know the local spirit of the city.

____________

2. Miris Dunja

www.shush-mush.com

Miris Dunja is a gorgeous café tucked away in a small street just before the Husrev-beg Mosque in the Baščaršija with its cozy Old World charm. What is interesting for this place is that it is named after the movie Miris Dunja made by Mirza Idrizović filmed in the same street as this warm and cosy cafe is located today. This is a place where you can enjoy your morning coffee and truly feel as part of the Sarajevo.

_________

3. Čeka

www.shush-mush.com

Čeka is located in Tito Street, which is the busiest street in Sarajevo. This cafe was opened in February this year, and represents a lovely little refreshment that fits perfectly into the Austro-Hungarian atmosphere that surrounds it.  This is definitely a great place for people watching while enjoying your morning or afternoon coffee. Since it is located in the city center, we are sure you will want to take a coffee break after shopping and sightseeing. Čeka is otherwise known as a tram station and a popular gathering place for young people of Sarajevo from which they all head for nearby bars, restaurants or shopping centers. If you want to drink coffee and watch the rhythm of the city, this is the perfect place for you.

______________

4. Sova

www.shush-mush.com

Sova is located in the heart of Bascarsija, and represents a true little oasis of peace, which spreads on two floors with a small terrace full of flowers, hidden between the surrounding buildings. The name Sova (owl) symbolizes silence, knowledge and books, representing a place where you can find and read a good book by yourself or in company while enjoying a great cup of coffee. Sova is loved by artists, tourists, designers, journalists, musicians and all those who are looking for inspiration for their creative work, or simply a place where they can relax. We included Sova in this small guide because we also take advantage of its wonderful ambient for our editorial shootings and because we often visit it privately and have our coffee here. Relaxing atmosphere, good coffee and light music will certainly allow you to relax, no matter how short your break is.

_______________
